The Traveller part 5

The Traveller part 5

The city looked so small spread out below him the window was high up in the palace right at the centre of the city the taller more affluent buildings near the city centre feeling like they were pressing up against the palace walls, small areas of green space indicated where the richest noblemen and merchants lived. He took a deep cleansing breath his armour creaking slightly, he tensed as he heard gentle footsteps approching from behind almost lost under the creak of his armour without turning he spoke, a note of melencholy creeping in, even though he tried to suppress it
"I'm my life I have had three wives, I cared for them all deeply but I loved Illaria, loved every street and every tower, every inch of our land"
he turned to face the young woman who had approched and now stood barely an arms length from him

"Everything I did I did for her, but there is hope, but it will be hard, so very hard"
he half turned back to the window a deep sadness in his eyes, as his hand settled on the eagle head pommel of his sword, he looked again at the young woman as she stood not far from him, she was very different to the young girl he remembered when he left. Four years had done some very significant things to the then Princess, now Queen Khalan, she was now very much a young woman no longer the thin tomboy running around the palace with a toy sword battling imaginary bandits.
With a gentle rustle of her dress she stepped up beside him at the window she clasped her hands infront of her waist as she took a breath her eyes on the city spread below them
"It is a beautiful city, it is almost inconcievable to imagine anything could threaten it"
After a moment looking at the city spread below she turned away from the window walking to a small couch gracefully seating herself upon it, settling her hands upon her crossed knees her eyes lowered, she spoke again quietly, almost a whisper
"But denying the threat will not make it disappear"
She raised her head her green eyes focusing on the knight standing before her, taking in his slightly tense stance, the immaculatley polished armour, not a single immperfection visable before settling on his face and his piercing blue eyes
"And now you have returned, Sir Knight, you shall again assume the position of Queen's Champion"
The Knight, unsuprised bowed his head to his Queen, before straightening to attention
"As you command Your Majestey, I live to serve"
